Gayla E. Smith, 68, of Sylvania, OH, died Saturday, July 22, 2017, at Heartland of Perrysburg, OH, surrounded by her entire loving family. Born October 22, 1948, in Toledo, OH, she was the daughter of Howard and Evelyn (Rathbun) Tredway. Gayla was a 1966 graduate of Sylvania High School and married Frederick C. Smith on August 31, 2001. Gayla was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, quick witted, who never met a stranger. She was a volunteer probation officer for Lucas County in the 1980’s and had also been employed by the former Fuller and Henry Law Firm and Gorkowski, Decker & Associates. Gayla also volunteered for the Lucas County Board of Elections and was active at the former St. Agnes Catholic Church. She enjoyed her dogs, crafts, camping, fishing, gardening and reading. Gayla also enjoyed traveling. Her best trip was to Alaska with her husband. She will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her loving husband, Frederick; children, Larry (Meg) Nester, Jr., Kevin (Jayde) Nester, Dan (Tammi) Nester and Susan Smith; and 8 grandchildren, Alexis and Larry III; Natalie, Isabel, and Julia; John (Shelby), Courtney, and Cierra. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A gathering will be from 2-7 pm Thursday, July 27, 2017, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI, where a memorial service will follow at 7:00 pm.
